Christmas stocking filler favourites!

Thursday, 21 December 2017

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Every year I eagerly shop for the perfect stocking fillers or 'tree presents' as my family call them.
Although the big presents are amazing, we usually know what we're getting because they tend to be the expensive shoes we've wanted all year but couldn't afford, or that big china mixing bowl mum never wanted to buy for herself and thinks would be a great Christmas present idea.. but anyway, stocking fillers!
How great are they?
The little tiny surprises that make the aww's and oo's float around the room in the early morning.
They can be as thoughtful or as funny as you like but these are the beautiful little beams of festive spirit that we use throughout the year that keep us going until our birthdays or the next Christmas (if you hoard them like I do!).

Underwear is a must!
A good pair of socks or pants will keep you going for at least a year, and with an added bit of sparkle, you'll never feel dull in your all black trouser suit.
Oliver bonas have some fantastic pairs of glittery socks ranging in different glittery colours for relatively little £.

Bath stuff.. if you're a bath person that is.
I LOVE getting bath stuff for Christmas in my stocking. It's the awkward stuff you don't want to spend money on during the year but really fancy popping in your bath after a stressful uni week or day at work.
Joan Collins has a great new collection perfect for all of those in need of a good rewind and relax!

This is one for all the cat people.
I am not one of them (I am hideously allergic to them) but I have many friends who are and I've gotta say, people who love cats are not like dog people.
Cat lovers are obsessed with cats, anything and everything to do with cats will do.
I've not come across a cat lover who isn't obsessed by cats, however, luckily enough, cat gifts are very fashionable and popular at the moment.
Take this little cat mug from Oliver Bonas.
Perfect stocking filler for any cat mad family members or even a little present to let your cat obsessed mate know you love them and to stay cool.
(Btw, I don't dislike cats, they're pleasant animals to be around and very cute, my eyes just don't agree when they swell up and my throat gets super itchy, I'm actually nuts about animals)

Pamper kits and face masks
Easy to pick up and can be very cheap, but ALWAYS appreciated.
Perfect little presents that, yet again, live in your cupboard until that horrid email ruins your work day, or your roots are so out grown and you're clinging on waiting for pay day in need to feel glamorous again.
They come in all colours, solutions, and can be found to suit all skin types.
I picked these up from TK Maxx super cheap and they're wonderful. - do your research though especially if you're into cruelty free brands to know what chemicals to look out for.

Lip balm - Carmex (the fave)
Cherry flavoured Carmex.. my absolute saviour.
Perfect perfect stocking filler because it's just so fab and nourishing but also won't break your bank.
Everyone knows about Carmex and although yeah it's just a lip balm, it's a flipping good one!
I got this one from asos and used my student discount which meant it was even cheaper!!
If I failed to mention earlier, I'm a massive bargain hunter.

Nail polish.
Doesn't everyone love glittery festive nails?
These great little gift sets last for AGES and are perfect for all occasions.
I'm particularly loving the Leighton Denny collection because the coverage is great and the sparkles are really bright and glow well after application to the nail.
I love the feel of freshly painted nails, it makes me feel so glamorous even on my top knot bun and lounge pant days.

I think more than anything, The Ordinary as a brand needs a mention.
I've never been one to fall madly in love with cult beauty products but I actually love this stuff.
I've got the foundation, Moroccan oil and a few other oils too and quite honestly, for the way the foundation is and how fab the products are, they deserve a much much much higher price tag.
Starting at £6 you can't really go wrong!
Head over to asos, type the brand in and go exploring, you won't be disappointed but be quick because they are so heavily sought after it's like gold dust.

If you leave your Christmas shopping to the last minute, I hope this little post will help you out, but even if you fancy a 'to me from me' gift, definitely head over to the websites mentioned above and have a snoop. You won't be disappointed!

Happy Shopping & Merry Christmas

Origins; the winter wonderful skin saving products

Winter, a wonderful season terrible for our skin

Chapped lips, dry skin, and harsh cold spells that play havoc with sensitive faces.

Over the years I have struggled with my oily skin so I've never really been adventurous with skin care brands, let alone ever suffered with dry skin, however, recently I've started on a course of antibiotics to try and sort out the issue.

These pills, however great for sorting all oil troubles, do temporarily leave you with dry and sensitive skin.
So, after a fabulous blog event with John Lewis, the wonderful team at Origins in Newcastle offered to book me in for a facial.
Jumping at the chance, I rocked up on my allocated day, sat back and had a wonderful skin soothing time.

Origins as a brand are fabulous. Completely cruelty free, with products teaming with glorious smells and wonderful treatments for all manners of skin types. - and the facials are incredible too!!

My personal favourites are the Dr.Weil, Ginger, Make a Difference and the Ginzeng range.

Their Dr.Weil's range has been specially formulated with Mushroom extract to help sore, irritated, red and inflamed skin, perfect for sufferers of skin issues.
I, from time to time, suffer with eczema on my hands and the skin relief soothing lotion was perfect!
I've been using the skin relief serum on my face especially around my lips and t-zone which is getting increasingly drier.
My face is left feeling moisturised and silky without any oily residue left over.
The days I forget to put it on, I really feel a difference. My skin is uncomfortable so I really would recommend this range to anyone with similar issues.

The Ginger range. Sumptuous smells good enough all year round but hydrating enough for the winter months.
My personal favourite is the ginger soufflé.
It has a light texture that almost bubbles on your skin, and I certainly can feel the hydration sinking in as soon as I use it.
On top of all of that, the smell is incredible.
I use this on the rest of my body after a shower or bath.  I've got a little pot in my bag too to use as 'on-the-go' hand cream.

Alongside Dr.Weil's serum, I like to use the Make A Difference overnight hydrating repair cream. This, as explained in the name, is used at night.
It's honestly fab. My face is so soft and nourished in the morning, I'm not waking up with any cracks or dry patches anywhere.
I use this about an hour before going to bed so it has time to sink in to my skin, it's really worth a try.

Finally, the Ginzeng range.
Well, in particular the refreshing eye cream.
Smells amazing and feels wonderful.
This light eye cream is great for the days when you feel absolutely shattered, and are worried about those dark circles making a swift return.

John Lewis Bloggers Event // 4.10.17

Everyone loves a pamper, right?

Well, I certainly do..

I'll start this post by apologising for my absence from blogging, but what better way to welcome myself back to it than with a post about the wonderful team at John Lewis, Newcastle.

I was very kindly invited to a night at the beauty retreat to sample all of the wonderful products, as well as receiving massages and treatments.
Obviously, I was really excited!
(and it didn't disappoint)

We were welcomed with canapés, macaroons (yum) and prosecco - perfect trio of edible wonderfulness to start the night out.
The live music was just fab too, it really was one of those events that plays on your mind of the next couple of weeks.
I keep having flash backs to the smells of relaxing oils and massages (which almost sent me to sleep)

So, lets talk about what and who I went to see:
Brow reshape and re-do - Benefit
Talk and Facial booking - Origins
Relaxing oils massage - ESPA
Hot Cloth Treatment - Liz Earle

Firstly, Benefit.. who doesn't love benefit?
Well, I am a definite convert when it comes to their brow products.
I have to admit, I don't really spend a lot of time on my makeup in the mornings and I've never been able to perfect that perfect ombre brow BUT, I can faithfully say after a wonderful mini masterclass, I can finally do it!
It was great, the products stayed on all night (I went out after the event), and I was really pleased with how they look. I couldn't recommend it enough.

Origins.. just amazing.
The products, the company and the fabulous ladies who work there.
I love the all natural feel to the company, and they were so super friendly.
The Ginzing range is to die for, ALSO, can we just mention the ginger souffle! - if you haven't tried it, you really need to. It is absolutely gorgeous and leaves a gorgeous smell on your skin.
Kindly enough, after the introduction we received to all of the products that night, I was offered to book in and swing by for a mini facial.
I booked in for the week after and wow.
I have really troublesome skin, but none of the products they used irritated my skin and it was left feeling smooth, refreshed and soft.

*I will be doing a separate post about this so keep your eyes peeled! - It was really that good.

If I could be a company, it would probably be this one.
All natural, health inspiring, mind and body focused brand.
The massage was amazing. I was asked how I was feeling, whether I wanted to feel revived or calmed.
I chose calmed.. I'm a bit of a stress head so anytime an opportunity to relax arises, I jump at the chance.
As expected, it didn't dissapoint. I was talked through all of the oils and products and really felt like the company cared about the wellbeing of the clients and customers.
I will definitely be putting one of the candles on my christmas list!

Liz Earle
Hot cloth treatment.. definitely a must have item in your home.
I had a full face of makeup at the time so the treatment was tried on my hands but seriously.. after feeling how soft and kind it was on my skin, and literally seeing the effects of it, I understand why people put it on their faces.
Again, like origins, I was offered to come back for another mini treatment.
My appointment is coming up soon and I literally can't wait.

John Lewis - beauty retreat.
If you're in Newcastle, you really need to have a look in there.
The brands and the team in there are just great, you won't be disappointed.
As for the event, I feel very privileged to have been invited, it was an evening full of pamper, gorgeous smells and products.

Thanks guys for a fab time x

*unfortunately I didn't get a chance to speak to anyone at Clinique, but this product was really fascinating and felt lovely on my skin!

53% Protein Multipower Bars

Sunday, 23 October 2016

Calling all gym junkies and sports athletes..

If you're protein mad and in need of a sweet recovery kick, these bars are for you!

Coconut, Yoghurt & Berry, Chocolate and Cookies & Cream

These 4 extremely yummy new flavours belong to multipowers 53% protein bars.
I was lucky enough to be sent these four fabulous flavours of multipowers new protein bars and quite frankly they're just great.
Once you get past the general, but not unpleasant, sticky protein bar chewiness, the flavours instantly hit your tastebuds like an explosion of yumminess.

My personal favourite was the cookies and cream but generally as a whole, all of the flavours are great.
The team at multi power are wonderful so as expected everything from our first contact to actually eating the product was fantastic.
I would wholeheartedly recommend these to anyone after a good protein kick pre or post training, especially if you like the aforementioned flavours.

I had half a bar straight after my workout and saved the other half for my post-training feed as a nice dessert finisher.

*I have uploaded a photo of the nutritional info just to verify what exactly you'll be getting.. if you were wondering..

I guarantee you'll love them!

Benito Brow Bar Bloggers Event

Saturday, 10 September 2016

Brow Bliss!

I, like most girls, love a bit of a pamper session.
There's a fab feeling you get when you wake up in the morning with good eyebrows, nice healthy hair and eyelashes that are curling the right way.
In general, I really struggle with my eyebrows because I have been cursed with uneven eyebrows  which vary in different shades of ginger, brown and blonde.. I often look like I've been on a sports tour and someone has taken a razor to my eyebrows, so naturally when I was invited to the Benito Brow Bar bloggers event, I jumped at the chance to go!

I was in correspondence with a lovely representative from Benito Newcastle who very kindly allowed me to bring a plus one which was just fantastic because like myself, my friend also struggled with daily brow glamour.

On arrival we were given a brief talk about the company and were swiftly offered a lovely glass of prosecco and chocolate orange cupcakes.
As expected, they both went down well.
Next, it was treatment time (Yay)!
We both chose to have our eyebrows threaded.
The service was fantastic, and I felt, virtually pain free, which is great considering threading treatments I've had in the past at different venues had been somewhat tearful.
The threading was done so quickly that I barely felt anything, and the sheer fact that I was asked what shape I wanted was an added bonus.
It had been the first time I had ever been asked what shape I wanted my eyebrows before threading and the outcome was amazing.
The threading was done using aloe vera laced thread as to make the process more comfortable for the customer.
The extra application of aloe vera gel at the end meant that my eyebrows were comfortable and the redness was kept to a minimum which meant walking back through the city centre wasn't a worry.

Personally, I would highly recommend Benito Brow Bar as a service for eyebrow threading. I loved it that much I re-booked myself in for another service as well as the Dramatic eyelashes before a party I have coming up at the end of this month!

Another great little tip of the month: Currently treatments are half price throughout the month of September so get yourselves booked in quick for a fab dose of pamper magic with the wonderful staff!

Thanks again Benito for a wonderful event!

Tenerife; Puerto De La Cruz

Sunday, 3 July 2016

Puerto De La Cruz, Tenerife.

Whenever I visit a new country, the first thing; which I personally think is etiquette for any holiday, is to learn a few words of that countries language. - hello, thank you, please and goodbye as a minimum!

Luckily for me, I have visited Spain and The Canary islands before so I had a basic understanding of Spanish words. I think locals are more willing to treat you with respect if you attempt to speak their own language. - I took the time to make the below image for anyone wanting to learn a bit of Spanish!

We arrived in Puerto Del Cruz, which happens to be on the North side of the island, quite late in the evening and were greeted by a very welcoming lovely concierge. Considering it was about 11pm, it was still super warm which was just great.
I love the sun, so with the prospect of a whole weeks worth of tanning ahead of me, I was naturally very happy.

Our first day consisted of exploring. We walked down to the black sand beaches and found a wonderful restaurant to eat at.
FYI - tenerife is SO cheap compared to the usual high English prices so you'll get heaps for your money over here.
The loveliest thing about this holiday was that we weren't in a particularly tourist area so we really got to indulge in the true Canarian culture.

It was around 28 degrees celsius every day which was perfect as there was a constant slight breeze so it meant we didn't overheat when we were tanning by the pool.

On the fourth day we headed up Mount Tiede which is the huge volcano on the island.
We took the gondola up, which for me was extremely scary as I hate heights.. and of course, I kept my eyes closed the whole way up!
We reached around 11,000ft and the view was spectacular!
I would highly recommend anyone visiting Tenerife to go up the volcano.
We bought lunch and a bottle of wine with us and dined whilst we sat baking in the sun above the clouds.

Being a sporty person, I naturally wanted to take advantage of the sports available at the hotel, and so we signed ourselves up for lawn bowls.
I used to play lawn bowls as a child with my grandma; who was exceptionally good, but we were also  on holiday with a lawn bowler so it was a great day that was had by all!

Every day we ate out and really tried to look for authentic Canarian restaurants.
The day of our lawn bowls competition, my boyfriend and I wanted to get some tapas.
We found the most amazing place, and stuffed our faces.
I also experienced my first banana daiquiri which was so alcoholic but tasted amazing! - the locals are not afraid of using up their alcohol so you would only need few to get on your merry way!
We finished the day off by walking along the rocks and taking in the the landscape.

The day before we left we decided to look for some local excursions.
With horse riding and quad biking in mind, we booked with Mamio Verde Adventures, which meant a full day in the mountains forest doing both activities. - It's safe to say it was a good leg workout!
We were picked up from our hotel and ferried up the mountain side to a yard full of gorgeous Andalusian horses.
I am an experienced rider but I did find it slightly uncomfortable as we were treking up gradients which we would struggle to walk up as people, let alone a horse with me on its back! - despite my worries of falling or slipping off the mountain, we (my boyfriend and I) had a lovely time.
Next, we quad biked!
We sped through the forest in the mountain over rocky terrain.
I am a thrill seeker, and having not really quad biked before, it was just fab.

Our last day was a sad one.
We all had such a fantastic holiday, none of us really wanted to leave.
Tenerife absolutely exceeded my expectations and I will 100% return.

My favourite shop for bespoke jewellery and wonderful gifts.

I am lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful talented people on a daily basis.
One of my wonderful talented friends set up a business making and selling jewellery.
She has recently expanded from selling online to setting up a gorgeous shop in my home town.

If you are a lover of fine jewellery and wonderful natural, fair trade and gorgeous gifts, it is not to be missed!
The decor of the shop is something to be admired, the layout is simply superb and the jewellery is second to none.
I personally own a collection of both bespoke and collection jewellery available, and I am in love.
The other gifts available are mostly natural based gifts, many from fair trade sources such as Nkuku, alongside gorgeous gifts for him and her, ranging from candles, homeware and scarfs.

The display is one of individual works of art sold in the form of jewellery, but it is the care and quality put into each épanoui item that is really something every person buying a piece of jewellery should be looking for.
Everything is handmade, as well as there being a brand new collection of scarfs in the store which are to die for!

I cannot recommend this brand enough.
The other items in store are carefully picked to suit the stores class and elegance.
Everything in store is perfect for all types of occasions, and they really do make perfect gifts for the most loved in your lives.

If you are ever in the Bedford area, it is definitely worth a look in, and if you prefer to order online, I will leave a hyperlink at the bottom of the page.
